Music City adds Randi Miles as Corps Choreographer
Music City Drum Corps adds Randi Miles as Corps Choreographer. “We are super excited to have Randi on board with us at Music City,” said Visual Caption Head Jacob Taylor. “With Randi on board we are ready to explore a whole new technical level and she will help inform our visual approach by bringing movement into focus first.”
Randi L. Miles graduated Magnum cum laude from Texas State University-San Marcos in December 2006 where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Dance and her Teacher’s Certification for the secondary level. May 2011 marked her graduation from Arizona State University with her Master of Fine Arts degree in Dance.
Ms. Miles has presented works and performed both nationally and internationally in both dance and colorguard. Randi was a performing member with the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps (2001-2004) as well as the Blue Devils (2005) where she was awarded Rookie of the Year!
Randi has taught and been involved in the education realm since before she graduated from high school. She has taught with the Crossmen (2007-2008), the Academy Drum and Bugle Corps (2010), and the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps (2013-2018). Ms. Miles served as the movement specialist and choreographer for the color guard as well as choreographer for the overall programs. Randi has worked with many color guards including Dripping Springs High School, Winston Churchill High School, Richland High School, Arizona State University, FeniX Independent, Cypress Independent, Tompkins High School, Flower Mound High School, among others.
Currently, Randi works full time at the University of Texas at San Antonio as Auxiliary Coordinator with the Spirit of San Antonio (SOSA) Marching Band. UTSA also has a competing PIO Percussion team that Randi co-directs along side UTSA Athletic Percussion Director, Benjamin Pyles. They began their collaborations in 2017 and have continued to do such since. UTSA Indoor has had success locally and nationally, making Finals in PIO WGI Championships with their first trip to Dayton in 2019. Ms. Miles is also dance faculty at UTSA where she continues to focus on developing her own technical style, unique choreography, and discovering her own personal choreographic process. Her classes include Modern 2, Contemporary Jazz, Modern 3, Choreography, and Introduction to Dance.
Randi Miles finds great joy in teaching others to enjoy dancing as much as she does. She strives to find new ways to communicate with students and embraces experimentation to do so. A positive atmosphere for learning where students feel confident and comfortable in trying new things and learning about themselves is always at the top of her list!
