Tommy Sam and Kyle Hammack to lead percussion team

Music City Youth in the Arts, Inc. announces the percussion leadership team of Tommy Sam, caption head and Kyle Hammack, front ensemble coordinator. "I am thrilled to see Tommy's continued advancement with Music City and taking on leadership of the Percussion Caption.” Mike Webb, Executive Director.

Tommy Sam is a percussionist in the Nashville area and has been a member of the instructional staff at Music City since 2014. Tommy is an active percussion educator, clinician, and arranger. He has provided instruction for dozens of band programs throughout Tennessee and the surrounding region. As a performer, he was a member of The Cavaliers, Memphis Sound Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Gateway Indoor percussion ensemble.

He is currently working on his Master’s degree in percussion performance at Middle Tennessee State University where he studies under Professor Lalo Davila and Dr. Brian Mueller. He received a Bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Tennessee at Martin where he studied percussion under Dr. Julie Hill.

 

Kyle Hammack began his percussion career in his hometown of Round Rock near Austin, Texas. He performed as a member of the front ensemble with Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps in 2014 and the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps 2015 through 2019. After graduating high school, he moved to Nashville to become a member of Music City Mystique's front ensemble 2016 through 2020 and attended Middle Tennessee State University where he received his Bachelors in Music Education.

Kyle currently resides in Round Rock, Texas where he helps instruct the front ensemble at Monarch Independent and Round Rock High School. He is grateful to have had effective and influential instructors such as Lalo & Julie Davila, Dr. Brian Mueller, Dr. Matt Jordan, Dr. Ryan Kilgore, Russell Wharton, Brad Palmer, Meagan Nelson, and many more.
