About Music City Youth in the Arts

Music City Youth in the Arts is a non-profit organization striving to provide life-changing experiences through accessible education in music and visual performance arts to young people. Music City was founded in 2008 in Nashville, TN, with its drum corps making it’s debut on the Drum Corps International stage in 2009 in Open Class competition. The drum corps was approved for World Class competition in 2017 and first competed in that division in 2018.

Press Notes

Naming

The organization can be referred to as “Music City Youth in the Arts” and after the first listing in print, it is preferable to use the acronym “MCYA.”

Refer to our drum corps as “Music City Drum Corps,” “Music City,” or “MCDC.” Although the official drum corps name is “Music City Drum & Bugle Corps,” avoid using the full name, “Music City DBC” or “MCDBC.”

Attending Rehearsals of MCYA Programs

Media coverage of Music City Youth in the Arts rehearsals is tightly controlled. Media will only be allowed access to rehearsals, including photography and videography, with prior approval of the MCYA Executive Director or, for drum corps event, the Music City Corps Director. Attendance as a media representative requires immediate check-in with MCYA/MCDC administration upon entering the rehearsal facilities. For rehearsal access permission, please email Office@MusicCityYouth.org. We cannot field requests for permission via phone or fax, or from any other email address. If you are on-site at a MCYA rehearsal and wish to obtain media access, please visit the administration area. Any media personnel found on rehearsal property without the proper approval will be asked to leave.

Copyright and Licensing of Material Rehearsed and Performed by MCYA Programs

Most of the material that you will see Music City Youth in the Arts programs rehearsing and performing is covered under various expressed copyrights. MCYA has obtained the licensing to arrange and perform any third-party works, but such licensing extends only to our public performances, and in some cases, our own uploading and/or streaming. MCYA makes no claim of responsibility for media coverage that violates the rights of copyright holders of our work. It is the media’s responsibility to use b-roll, rehearsal footage, performance footage, and imagery responsibly and with the proper licensing and attribution. Furthermore, MCYA reserves all rights to its own brand, and to the creative work it owns including its shows and creative content. All coverage using footage and photography owned by MCYA requires proper attribution.
